Delasi’s new album & dj Gioumanne’s East African 45s in Africa Is Hot

August 2015 and the Africa Is Hot team is back together in the studio. Amal held down the fort since January while J4 was in Kenya. He came back with three bags full of vinyl, and in the second hour some of the highlights of the catch can be heard, including unique taarab sounds from Mombasa, a proto-house drum machine track which sounds like the Nigerian version of Fatback band, and a smoking Afro synth groove from 1987.

The show starts off with a couple of new tunes from all over: Annie Flore from Gabon, Haji Madawa from Zanzibar (Tanzania) and Aar Manta from Somalia via UK. We’re also premiering a great compilation of Somali 70s singles from the Light & Sound label, out now on the brand new label Afro7 from Finland. Special guest in the first hour is Delasi, Ghanaian born artist living in Nairobi (Kenya) who merges soul, hip hop and other influences into a powerful stew. His first full album #ThoughtJourney is out now, and Delasi talks via Skype about how it came about.
