A good site to explore African info on the web, with hundreds of links, very complete online newspapers and radio directories, info on African culture in the Netherlands etc.

Africa Online
Pan-African access and content provider. At their huge site they have good news and info sections on a variety of topics, also country pages which are maintained by local editors. Their chat section is quite good, the African Music chat is the home of many experts on African music.

Homepage of African 'chico' Kaysha. With his r&b influenced zouk-rap he struck a chord with the Latin American world and the whole of West Africa. But even before he blew up, Kaysha was active on the web with his homepage which is high on self-made graphics. To listen to his music, check out this link which offers (legal) MP3's, including his collaboration with the Wu's Killa Priest.

The only other all African hip hop website, with info on various countries, a lot about Kenya and an African Hip Hop forum.

Rap, ragga and reggae
Results of a short trip by Krister and Monica from Sweden to Kenya, Zimbabwe and Zambia during which many young urban artists were interviewed. Featuring many artist descriptions, interviews, pics and sounds.

The homepage of one of Gambia's earliest studios to produce a hip hop album. Online ordering of Ghanaian hiphop cd's from a Canada based company.

Reggie Rockstone live in Switzerland
Boombox, a nice site with many realvideo files of hiphop events, has archived material from a Rockstone concert in Switzerland, November 2000.

Spider's Web Records
Extensive site of Ghana based record label, home to Akyeame, Buk Bak, and a bunch of other hiplife and gospel artists. Most albums have online audio samples.

Soulatidoe
Homepage of this L.A. (USA) based duo

Lord Kenya
Twi language rapper. This site is for German speakers only, though there's a few pics as well. Also check out his songs 'Sika Baa' and 'to God be the glory' at Besonic.

Hiplife
Hiplife is what the fusion of highlife and hip hop is called in Ghana. Performers range from truly hip hop minded people such as Reggie Rockstone to more or less trend following musicians from the highlife section. This site is an introduction.

Phat magazine
Nice urban music magazine, emphasis on Kenyan hiphop but aiming to represent the entire continent. The site contains a preview of the hard copy.

Krytikal Mass
Group from Oakland featuring Sanjo Zen (Kenya) who also has a solo album out

K-Stringz
Kenyan crew (brother and sister) based in Minnesota (USA).

Hardstone
Kenyan ragga star married & moved to USA. At this site some interviews and general info.

Hangtime in Nairobi
Good site on hip hop related issues in Kenya, such as urban clothing designer Fundi Frank and several rap groups.

Kenyan hip hop in MN
Short article used to be at the Mezesha website, about Kenyan hiphop in Minnesota, USA where there seems to be a large Kenyan community. NB Mezesha is currently under construction.

The label that released the classic 'Club Africa' compilation, as well as rereleases of Tony Allen's albums and another one by Orlando Julius, a Nigerian musician who in the 1960's inspired James Brown to compose 'I feel good'!.

Tapefreakz
The best info on the web about hiphop and breakbeat mixtapes. This guy seems to own all tapes that you can possibly think of - from rare 80's mixes by Dr Dre to the latest dj Muro tape from Japan. The best of them get a review, the listings are still useful to know what's been released in the past. Too bad he doesn't sell copies from the website.
