To Apopyalips and anyone else that reads this post...the position of Ikuku Records on this issue is simple. In the real world, putting out an artist costs money. Everything, and i mean everything has to be paid for. Normally, when an artist does a video confirmation for a gig, that means he is coming. Well at least up until now, that has been the case as far we are aware.
When the artist doesn't turn up and the gig is cancelled, in the real world...people lose money and get pissed off.
Ikuku records is a hip hop label. A real one with old school ethics. If you diss us, we diss you back.
We had investors in the label coming to that gig, from Denmark, we had dancers who were already paid, outfits bought, hotel rooms booked, rehearsals...the whole 9. All the K16 fans coming from London that had already booked plane tickets and hotel rooms. No sympathy for them i guess
What this incident has shown, is how far Nigeria still needs to go in the entertainment biz. An artist blatantly, and i mean blatantly breaks the terms of a contract agreement and the people that get the blame are the poor promoters that paid €40,000.00 to bring him over. In fact, they are vilified
People don't do any research whatsoever, they just immediately assume that what 9ice's record label says is true. That somehow, he took money, signed a contract, made a video confirmation for the gig, somehow forgetting all along that they had asked him to take an illegal route, until it was actually time to board the plane.
Psquare have performed in Dublin, D'Banj as well, 2face next month....how come they all got visa's but 9ice couldn't. He's the only one that has to take an illegal route.
In fact the record label didn't even bother releasing a statement, until 4 days after the gig was cancelled and they only did that because K16's diss track was raising negative publicity for them.
Since all of you are loyal die hard 9ice fans, can someone please (no bullshit) explain how he managed to book the videoshoot for the Gongo Aso Video on the same day he was supposed to be performing in Dublin?
This is 2008. We have the internet now. You can research anything you want. Be objective and look at the issue from both sides. Don't just believe anything your told like a child.
We have nothing against 9ice. I play his CD all the time. The guy has true talent. But he seriously needs to look at his management team. 1500 loyal fans bought tickets for the Dublin gig...don't they count.
K16 didn't diss 9ice because of cheap fame or to try and get on the map. We'll put his CD and Video out like everybody else and the masses will decide.
But as everyone knows, when you lose money it stings and at Ikuku Records, if it stings we diss.
Peace out
