On the coast, fish and lobster with local dishes such as biryani and meat or fish curries. Dar es Salaam has a number of Chinese Italian and other ethnic restaurants. Traditional Tanzania food such as Ugali (a maize staple) or pure (Maize and beans) yams, Sweat potatoes Cassava and various greens are worth trying. Getting Around By Air - Air Tanzania, Precision Air, Eagle Air have schedule services to all the major towns in Tanzania. There are also smaller companies with scheduled services and a number of charter companies based in Zanzibar, Dar es Salaam and Arusha. By Rail - There are three main railways lines: the Northern Tanzania Railways Corporation, running from Tanga to Arusha; the central (connecting to the Northern) which runs from Dar Es Salaam TO lake Tanganyika @ Kigoma with a Northern spur which runs to Lake Victoria at Mwanza, and Tazara, the Tanzania Zambia Railway service that runs from Dar es Salaam into central Zambia. Train travel is comfortable and reasonably reliable. Though not as fast as most bus services. It is in itself an experience as one gets to witness the countryside and a true sense of African living. By Bus - Intercity buses are reliable and have services throughout the day. The passport must be presented to the immigration Control office at any entry point; border station, airport, harbors with one of the following a valid visa or a resident permit. Visitors must also present onward or return tickets, together with a proof that; they have a sufficient fund to support them. Who requires a visa? All foreigners from non-Commonwealth are required to have a valid visa unless there countries have agreements with Tanzania under which the visa requirement is waived. Citizens of Commonwealth countries are not required to obtain visas (except citizens of the United Kingdom, Canada, Nigeria and India). Type of Visa: The common types of visa are as follows: Ordinary Visa: An ordinary visa is issued at any Tanzania mission abroad. It enables the holder to be granted a visitor's pass at any entry point (border, airport, harbors). A person coming from a country where there is no Tanzania mission may be issued a visa at the entry point in Tanzania. Business Visa: The business Visa is issued to prospective investors who intend to visit Tanzania for such purposes as making feasibility studies, establishing professional and business contacts, and making arrangements for investment during the stat-up period. The valid of the visa can vary from one to six months. Multiple-Entry Visa: Foreigners who, because of their business or their investments, need to make frequent visits to Tanzania are issued multiple-entry visas. Their validity ranges from one month to a year. Visa-Issuing Station and Authorities: Visa are issued by the following: - Tanzania representatives abroad - The office. of the Director of Immigration Officer Zanzibar - Entry points to the united Republic of Tanzania principally - Namanga, Tunduma, Sirari, Horohoro, Kigoma port, Dar es Salaam - International Airport, Kilimanjaro International Airport, Zanzibar - Airport and Zanzibar Harbour - Any other gazetted entry point. Residence Permits for self-employment foreigners (investors) Applicants are required to fill in Tanzania Immigration Form I obtainable at any immigration office. The following items must be attached to the application form: Certificate of Competence from Tanzania Investment Centre (TIC), a covering letter from the applicants, six photographs, a curriculum vitae, education certificate (if appropriate), company registration memorandum and articles of association, evidence of the business premises, sector approval from any relevant ministry, share certificate (if appropriate), Copy of passport pages confirming nationality and valid of passport. Zanzibar Travel between Dar es Salaam and Zanzibar. Flights are operated by Air Tanzania Dar es Salaam to Zanzibar throughout the week. There are many fast Boat services to the Islands from Dar port, time of travel is on average 2 hours and the services are offered hourly till 4 PM.
