Hip Hop in Liberia The Boyz of Butuburam Members: DeeDee & The Boyz, Jean the destroyer, MC Dick & MC Trinch, Master Tony, A. L. Capon feat. Crazy Buzzle Bee, AKO (producer) Despite official announcements that peace reigns in Liberia after a war that had been going on for years, many Liberians are still outside their native country. Some managed to flee to Europe and try to survive out there, others crossed the border to neighbouring countries. Meanwhile, among the (ex) soldiers hip hop dress and language has been popular for years. Names such as 'Terminator X' and others have a sinister undertone when you think of the serious atrocities that have taken place in the country. 'The Boyz of Butuburam' is a cd recorded with some of the refugees staying in Ghana in a refugee camp of the United Nations. The name of the camp is 'Butuburam'. The German Liberian Alexander Dworak when travelling to Ghana met with 16-28 year old rappers in the refugee camp of Butuburam. Shocked of their fate and impressed by the quality of their raps, he decided to record their voices in a local studio. Back in Germany Alexander composed and produced the music.
A compact disc with the resulting songs has been made available through United Sound in Germany. Here's the tracklist: 1. Intro - We are all africans (AKO) 2. A better place to live (DeeDee & The Boyz) 3. Pray for liberia (Jean the destroyer) 4. Atmo 1 (AKO) 5. U wanna sing (MC Dick & MC Trinch) 6. Listen listen listen (Master Tony feat.
