Ex-Doe Solo artist Albums: Davi Medi Kuku, Maba, Go Go Wo Ho (2000) Label: Ashanti International, based: Accra,Ghana
Upstart rap artist who raps in Twi and English. Strangely enough; he is known for lyrics in Ewe. This is due to collaboration with former partner named Chicago. EX-DOE is an Akan, so his Twi flow represents his heritage.Used to be part of a group called The Traditional Rulers. Known in Accra for hype stage shows but little lyrical content with such nonsense as 'Twi-Chinese'. Hit it bigtime with a single from his first album of the same name entitled 'Daavi Medi Kuku'. (Ewe for 'Sister, can I please have some Koko). This featured the best rap artist in Ewe; Chicago. (He actually wrote all the verses.) It was more than a year before he was featured on Nana King's 'Champion'. This infectious tune sampled Fela's 'Lady' and featured EX-DOE as a rap accompaniment. This collaboration led EX-DOE to abandon plans to join Kassa Records and record his second album with Ashanti International Records. (Nana King's label). 'Maba' (Mah-bah) (I have come) announced the beginning of the Rap wars in Ghana. The title track was a straight diss to Reggie Rockstone (although his name is not mentioned) in Twi. It is reported that Nana King pushed EX-DOE in this position to create controversal sales. Also it is now known that Akyeame wrote the Twi verses on 'Maba' dissing Rockstone . Akyeame represents for Kumasi (Oseikrom) but Rockstone resides in Accra. Rockstone claims to be the Oseikrom president. Rockstone has responded to EX-DOE at freestyle session shows but not on any recorded music. These two hot rap artists have caused the Ghanaian Hip Hop society to divide into two camps; Kassa Records and Ashanti International.Three albums to his credit: DAAVI MEDI KUKU. (Ewe for 'Sister, can I please have some Koko) Hot singles: Title track of the same name in Ewe featuring Chicago. MABA - (I have come) Title track of the same name in Twi. Beat and sound very similar to DMX's 'Stop, Drop (Ruff Ryders Anthem). Biting lyrics aimed at knocking Reggie Rockstone off his throne in Ghana. 'Comfort' - Twi lyrics with Hi-Life singer, Dr. Paa Bobo. Go Go WoHo (Relax yourself) 'Go Go Wo Ho' featuring Shy. This one was produced by DKB. It bites the Beatnuts 'Watchout Now!' beat and melody. 'Good one There' feat. Shy bites even harder! This track was produced by Nana King. (known in Ghana for nabbing beats from the recent US hits). Well, they went and snatched The GZA's 'Breaker, Breaker'. Homeboy even replayed those slick violin stabs, which was originally chopped up by Mathematics of the Wu family. 'Champion' - Hot single off Hi-Life/RnB fusion singer/producer; Nana King. Album of the same name features two healthy verses of EX-DOE. Samples Fela's 'Lady'. © 2000 Africanhiphop.com |
