Bantu Pound Gangsters

Written by Dola Soul (DPT) for Rumba-Kali, 1997

This group includes the following members:

1) CAZ-T Castrol Marcelin (24)
2) SNAZ-T - Michael Kameha (22)
3) Mr. Luddy - Luddy Bishota (25) "The Producer"
4) Soggy Doggy Anter - Anselm Tryphone (19)

The group was founded on 2nd december, 1995 when Caz-T and Soggy Doggy met by chance when they were traveling, one from Meta High School in Mbeya and the other one was traveling from Udzungwa Secondary School in Iringa. Both of them were coming to Dar-Es-salaam on holiday.

After talking to each other for the duration of the trip and exchanging different views with one another they both appeared to shared the same interest in Rap Music and the entire Culture of Hip Hop which was the most talked about thang by school kids, there and then they decided to form the above named group Bantu Pound Gangstarz.

The main aim of this group is to promote the Roots and other things belonging to the African Culture.

After they got to Dar they got two more Artist in the Group Snaz-T and Luddy who happens to be Soggy Doggy Anter's cousin and also the producer of their soon to be released Debut Album "ILALA" .This producer has got a totally different touch from anyone of the Top producers here in Dar-Es-Salaam.

An insight Into Producer Luddy "New Producer on the Block"

His distinguishing trade mark I must say is the strong Bass and Phat beats with light cord strings that just casts your mind away from the usual Productions that you hear from Master Jay, P.Funk or Bonnie Luv. All these producers give him credit for coming out with something different onto the Tanzanian Rap Scene. He is easy going a simple and straight forward person who blends with people well.

Mr. Luddy has also worked with Bonnie Luv in producing a single for "Crazy GK" a solo upcoming rap Artist and also "Hard Blasters" new single not yet released on air and in the future I guess more Rap Crews will be produced by him. It's so great to see Luddy working on a Beat, he is some sort of a perfectionist never satisfied till he gets every single note sounding right. It takes him anything from a couple of minutes to 2 or 3 days to come out with that beat that he say 'Hmmm! Now it beginning to sound right'. He loves everything to come out Crisp and clear. He is also a Rapper himself apart from being a Producer, he is just waiting for the right opportunity to Drop the Boom on Emcees! Also I must conclude by saying he is very hard working and dedicated to what ever he does he is the type of person that can work 24/7 in a studio for Real.

Back to the Bantu Pound
This group has also been seen performing at Beach parties and concerts on several occasions and has done a lot of Good performances on Stage whether it be here in Dar or Soggy Doggy Representing his Pound in Mbeya people usually appreciate and Big Up! the pound for Represent something genuine. They Rap using Swahili Language which happens to be their mother Tongue also English and Zulu language they incorporate in their Lyrics. Which I must say is something very unique that distinguishes them from other rap crews.

Real aggressive on the Mic they are when they get on stage, all they want to do is cause damage according to their own word "Our aim is to be the best and we also want to make Rap History".

We want to record a lot of songs and do many shows in and out of our Country so as to make people familiar with our group and increase the awareness of Tanzanian Rap Artist. We all stay with our parents.

The songs in this Album basically talk about life, love, diseases, how the Bantus are surviving and finally how they can make Rap to be Science.

The Song "Bado Nakutesa" which is a single from their album happens to be the song that gave the Bantu Pound the popularity that they enjoy today. It was played on Radio One and Capitol Radio during the test signal period. And it went all the way to Radio One's Top 10 Chart Show.

It was very much talked about and very few people knew that this song was actually produced by Mr. Luddy who is still relatively new in the Ear's of Hip Hop fans all around Tanzania. But this year I guess all that will change. Other song released is "Hile na Lile", Snaz & Caz-T together on this track flowing like there is no tomorrow. Real tight with their Lyrics I must say giving you this and that full of Facts.
