Shaheen & Ready D (Prophets of da City) at RBMA

The annual Red Bull Music Academy brings together some of the most interesting music veterans and young talents in one space. In 2003, the RBMA took place in Cape Town, SA and two members of legendary South African hip hop group Prophets of da City (first album released in 1990) were there.

Shaheen and Ready D tell about the early days of POC and the context in which they started doing music in the eighties: doing music while racial segregation and the Apartheid regime were in place. Ready D is quite a story teller considering that deejays are often the more quiet group members. The transcribed text of the interview can be found here (give thanks to the Red Bull intern who must have spent a full day transcribing this!)

Thanks to Africa is a country blog for noticing the world about this stream.
