Doin’ it in the Park with Congo Groove and Blitz

If you’re near Amsterdam, the Netherlands on saturday July 31st 2010, you’re in for a treat. The second edition of Doin’ it in the Park, the Africanhiphop.com open-air park jam, promises to be even better than last year’s edition. With an all-star line-up and confirmation of many of our friends to attend, we highly recommend you to block this evening in your agenda and join the party in Tolhuistuin, Amsterdam’s cozy ‘secret garden’ on the hottest day of summer.

International guests are Blitz the Ambassador (Ghana/USA) with his full live band, and Congo Groove, a collective made up of Fredy Massamba (known from Zap Mama, Tambours de Brazza, Congo Brazzaville), Pitcho (Congolese born emcee in Belgium), Lexxus Legal (PNB, Congo Kinshasa) and dj Aral.

From the African diaspora in the Netherlands, Pan Afrikanz, Vieira, C.I.A., Furlan and Geoffy G will perform along with more names to be confirmed. The young deejays of L’Afrique Som Systeme open up while Dj Threesixty (African hip hop radio) plays the final hour of African club music. The evening kicks off with the opening of an exhibition opening by visual artist Kevin Dalton-Johnson (UK/Jamaica). The host of the evening is Quest One.

Tolhuistuin is transformed into a block jam with a stage, a mini market where you can get the infamous Doin’ it in the Park shirts as well as Africa is the Future gear (1st time in Holland), homebrew fashion, artist merchandise, delicious food and more, and enough space to enjoy the summer evening. Africa in the Picture will screen the documentary Streetball about South Africa’s homeless world cup teams. Tolhuistuin is a child-friendly zone and kids under 12 accompanied by their parents get in for free.

Additions to the program will be announced here, or join us on Facebook at www.facebook.com/africanhiphopdotcom.

The evening starts at 4PM (indeed 2 hours earlier than the flyer says!) and ends at midnight, so come early.
Entrance is €5 only (kids under 12 free!)
How to get there:
at the back of Amsterdam Central Station take the Buikslotermeer ferry right across, this takes 3 minutes. Tolhuistuin is right there on your left hand (map).
